Policy Terms & Conditions

Version 2026-07  ·  Effective July 2026 ·  Underwritten by Safrican Insurance Co. (FSP 15123)

These Terms and Conditions govern your funeral insurance policy issued by Amana and underwritten by Safrican Insurance Company Limited (FSP 15123). Please read this document carefully. By accepting these terms at registration, you enter into a legally binding funeral policy agreement.

1. Parties and Roles

This funeral policy is administered by Amana (Pty) Ltd, a Juristic Representative of Amana Financial Services (Pty) Ltd, an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 49436).

The policy is underwritten by Safrican Insurance Company Limited (FSP 15123), who carries the insurance risk and is the ultimate payer of valid claims.

2. The Policy and Cover

This policy provides a lump-sum funeral benefit on the death of an insured life, to help cover funeral-related expenses.

The insured lives, the cover (benefit) amount, and the monthly premium are as set out in your Policy Schedule, which forms part of this policy.

Cover begins on the commencement date stated in your Policy Schedule, provided the first premium has been received.

3. Premiums

Premiums are payable monthly. Your cover depends on premiums being paid up to date.

If a premium is not received, a grace period applies as set out in your Policy Schedule. If the premium remains unpaid after the grace period, the policy will lapse and no benefit will be payable.

A lapsed policy may be reinstated at the discretion of the administrator and underwriter, and a new waiting period may apply.

4. Waiting Periods

A waiting period of six (6) months applies to death from natural causes from the start of cover (or from the date a life or benefit increase is added).

Death as a result of an accident is covered from the commencement date once the first premium has been paid, with no waiting period.

Death as a result of suicide is not covered during the first twelve (12) months of cover.

No benefit is payable for a claim event that occurs during an applicable waiting period.

5. General Exclusions

No benefit is payable where the death results from: participation in criminal activity; active participation in war, riot, or civil commotion; or self-inflicted injury or suicide within the first 12 months.

No benefit is payable where the claim is fraudulent, or where material information was misrepresented or withheld at application or during the policy term.

6. Claims Process and Time Limits

A claim event (death) must be reported to Amana within three (3) months of the date of death.

All required supporting documents must be submitted within a further six (6) months so that the claim can be assessed and finalised.

Valid claims are aimed to be settled within 48 hours of all required and verified documents being received.

Required documents include: a certified copy of the death certificate; the BI-1663 / Notification of Death; certified copies of the deceased and the claimant identity documents; and proof of the claimant’s banking details. Additional documents may be required depending on the circumstances of death (for example a police report for an unnatural death, or proof of relationship for a dependant).

7. Payment of Benefits

The benefit is paid to the nominated beneficiary or the claimant whose banking details and identity have been verified.

On payment of a benefit for the main member, cover for that main member ends. Dependants covered under the policy may be offered the option to continue cover under a new policy, subject to the underwriter’s terms.

8. Cancellation

You may cancel this policy at any time by submitting a written cancellation request through the Amana member portal or by contacting Amana directly.

A 48-hour retraction window applies: you may withdraw a cancellation request within 48 hours of submitting it, after which the cancellation is final.

Your cover remains active for 30 days from the date of your last premium payment. No further premiums will be collected after a cancellation request is received.

No refund will be issued for premiums already paid, regardless of when during the cover period the cancellation request is made. Premiums collected prior to cancellation are payment for risk cover already provided.

If the cancellation falls within the first 31 days of the commencement date (cooling-off period), cover ceases immediately upon confirmation and no refund of premiums is made.

Cancellation is confirmed in writing by Amana. A policy that has been cancelled cannot be reinstated — a new policy application must be submitted.

9. Protection of Personal Information (POPIA)

By accepting these terms you consent to Amana and the underwriter collecting, processing, and storing your personal information for the purpose of administering this policy and assessing claims, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

You may request access to, or correction of, your personal information at any time by contacting Amana.

10. Accuracy of Information

You confirm that all information provided — including identity numbers, contact details, and beneficiary details — is true and complete. Providing false or incomplete information may result in the policy being cancelled or a claim being declined.
